Charlene Marie Richard, the second of ten children, grew up in rural Louisiana in a family of loving, close, and faithful Catholics. At 7 years old she started praying the rosary daily and had a devotion to Our Lady. When she was 12, she was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia. During this time she suffered terribly, yet never complained and “offered up” her pain for others. She is a witness to the power of resignation and acceptance to God’s will in simplicity, humility, and great faith. Her cause for canonization began in 2020 and she is known as the “Little Cajun Saint.”
