Adele Brise (Brice) was born in Belgium and lost her sight in her right eye due to a childhood accident involving liquid lye. Her family immigrated to Champion, Wisconsin, in 1855. On October 1859, she had three visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who told her, “I am the Queen of Heaven, who prays for the conversion of sinners, and I wish for you to do the same. Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation.” Adele then went to work for farm families to catechize the children. She later opened a school and formed a community of sisters according to the rule of the Third Order of Franciscans. Bishop David Ricken formally opened her cause in June 2024.
