Saint John of Kanty, also known as John Cantius was born in Kety, Poland. He was a brilliant student, ordained a priest, and became a professor of theology and philosophy by the time he was 23. He was well known for his generosity to the poor and students, caring for their financial and spiritual needs. As a staunch defender of the faith, he wrote many theological tracks and hand-copied the scriptures. He took pilgrimages to Rome and Jerusalem. Yet because of his popularity, his jealous rivals kicked him out of the university and sent him to a small Bohemian parish. He won the parishioners’ hearts and after 8 years he returned to Krakow to teach and died a natural death.
