Saint Eugene de Mazenod was born an aristocrat during the French Revolution, which took everything from his fleeing family. His childhood and young adulthood were chaotic and destitute financially which caused his mother to leave the family and divorce his father. At 25 he became a priest serving the poorest of the poor. Others joined him and this Mission of Provence formally became the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, which have evangelized the world. He became the Bishop of Marseilles in 1837 and died after a tireless life of prayer and works.
