Hermann Cohen was raised Jewish and a music prodigy who studied under Franz Liszt. He became famous at a young age, indulging in sin and vice. A chance encounter with Catholic benediction moved his soul so radically that he began attending daily Mass, adoration, conversion and eventually became a Discalced Carmelite priest. He was a popular preacher, restored nocturnal benediction and re-established the Carmelite order in France and England. Many people came to him for his miraculous intercession even though he preferred quiet contemplation. Throughout his life he was gifted with mystical visions yet continued writing music for the Church. He died of smallpox.
