Saint Francis Xavier was born into a noble, Spanish family. He met St. Ignatius Loyola at the university where they became lifetime friends, were ordained priests together, and co-founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). St. Francis is considered one of the Greatest Christian missionaries, traveling and evangelizing from Portugal to Japan. He baptized over 30,000 people. He died on Shangchuan Island of an acute illness while waiting to evangelize China.
