Blessed Jutta of Disibodenberg, also known as Blessed Jutta of Sponheim, was a German noblewoman and mystic. As a Benedictine, she founded and served as the abbess of the women’s cloister at Disibodenberg. She was renowned for her wisdom, her commitment to penance, and her role as a spiritual and academic guide to many, most notably the young St. Hildegard of Bingen. When Hildegard was approximately eight years old, she was placed in Jutta’s care at the Disibodenberg monastery, where Jutta served as her spiritual mentor and mother figure. Jutta passed away on December 22 following a 20-day illness, an event that had been foretold to her by St. Oswald.
