Saint Simon was one of the twelve Apostles surnamed the Zealot. He was zealous for the honor of Christ and exact in all the duties of the Christian life. He showed pious indignation towards those who profess the faith with their mouths but not their lives. He preached the Gospel in Egypt and Persia joining St. Jude (Thaddaeus) along the way. The saw is his attribute because he was believed martyred by being cut in half.
