Saint Adrian (or Hadrian) of Canterbury, a monk and scholar, born in North Africa, was an advisor to Pope Vitalian for 3 years who offered Adrian the position of Archbishop. Deeming himself unworthy, Adrian declined.  He was then sent to England as Abbot of the Augustinian monastery of St. Peter and St. Paul in CanterburyThrough his leadership, it became a center of learning and scholarship. St. Adrian taught for 40 years and was buried there. Hundreds of years later, his body was found incorrupt while renovating the monastery.
