Saint Afra originally from Cyprus, settled in Germany. She is reputed to have run a brothel in that town. During the Diocletian persecutions, a fleeing bishop hid there, converting Afra, her employees, and her family. When she refused to renounce the bishop or her faith to the authorities, she was burned to death. Her mother and three of her servants suffered the same fate.
