Saint Catherine, an Italian nun, and mystic, was educated in the arts. She joined the Franciscans as a tertiary, then eventually, the Poor Clares. In Bologna, she started a new convent and was appointed its Superioress. Her mystical visions included battles with Satan and an ecstatic experience of having the baby Jesus placed in her arms by the Blessed Mother. Buried without a coffin, she was exhumed after 18 days and found uncorrupted. Six hundred years later, her body remains intact and is seated on a golden throne behind a glass case in the Church of the Saint in Bologna.
