Saint Norbert was born into a wealthy German family and lived a worldly life. In 1115, riding his horse during a storm, he had a literal “off his horse” conversion. He was thrown from his horse and when he woke up he asked: “Lord, what do want me to do?” Our Lord said “Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.” Norbert completely reformed his ways, was ordained a priest and eventually Archbishop.
He was given permission to preach against the heresy doubting the true presence and clerical reforms. In 1120, he started the Order of Premontre, using the rule of St. Augustine, emphasizing poverty, prayer and community life.
